Carey Kane, Grants Manager

Carey Kane, a Miami-native and Miami-Dade County Public Schools graduate, has a 25-year non-profit history that has mostly been focused on fundraising. After completing her bachelor’s degree in Communications at Northwestern University, she joined the Teach For America program in Phoenix for two years. She then obtained her master’s degree in theatre education from Antioch University. Upon returning to Miami, she was hired as program manager at Breakthrough Miami.

Her development career has included serving as the senior development associate, development director and interim executive director at The Women’s Fund, Arts for Learning, and Teach For America

Miami-Dade. Carey has spent a large portion of her career writing grants, tracking grants and doing grant reporting.

Grant Writing and Reporting

  • Played a key role in securing over $13 million in grants from Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami and various foundations and individuals over a period of 3 years at The Gatehouse Group.

  • Authored letters of inquiry, grant applications, and proposals throughout her career.

  • Co-wrote grant proposal that led to The Gatehouse Group being chosen as sole

    developer to build affordable housing in partnership with the Lyric Theater.

  • Successful proposals while at Teach For America Miami-Dade, Arts for Learning Miami

    and at Riverside House include: The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, The Joseph H. & Florence A. Roblee Foundation, The Dunspaugh-Dalton Foundation, Publix Super Markets Charities, ABIG, and Office Depot.

  • Managed post-award grant reporting detailing quantitative and allegorical data for several non-profits.

  • Oversaw grants calendar at Teach For America Miami-Dade, Arts for Learning Miami, Breakthrough Miami, and Riverside House.

  • Conducted grant research and proposal development and created a unique procedure to carry out this process.

  • Responsible for ensuring data in Raiser’s Edge (RE) was current, and tracking grants; RE data entry included Actions, linking Actions to submitted proposals, and marking which proposals/grants are funded.
